FAIRFIELD'S Lana Tarek has secured her place as a Sydney finalist in Miss Galaxy Australia 2013, a competition promoting "beauty with cause".

The 18-year-old law student at UWS said she had started raising money for Make-A-Wish Australia, as well as sponsoring a child through World Vision.

"I aim to raise $3000 for Make-a-Wish, because the whole point of the competition is beauty with a cause, and giving back to the community," she said.

Ms Tarek said she had been thinking about sponsoring a child through World Vision for a while, and entering the competition had given her the impetus to start. She donates $55 a month.

Ms Tarek juggles university studies, a small hair and beauty home business and a job in recruitment.

Having already made it through as one of the six Sydney finalists, she will take on finalists from the rest of the country at the national competition in March next year.

If successful, she will head to the US for the Galaxy International Pageant later in the year.

The competition focuses on photography, an interview, fashion wear, swimwear and evening wear.

Ms Tarek is holding a charity event at her Fairfield home later this month, but others can donate at everydayhero.com.au/lana-tarek.
